...that with the help of Communities In Schools Dallas Region (CISDR), Labrittini has learned to respect people and care about her life?
For Labrittini, coming to school did not necessarily mean making it to the classroom. She had 23 absences, a defiant attitude and plummeting grades. She was also about to become another homeless teen. CISDR stepped in to work with Labrittini, building a rapport with her and showing interest in her personal and academic success. We monitored her attendance and provided one on one advice for dealing with conflict.
Recently, Labrittini has been reviewing college applications and discussing career options. Speaking of how CISDR has helped Labrittini, she says, “CISDR has helped me change my attitude. I now have respect for people and care about what and how I do”. Labrittini’s goal is to graduate from high school and attend college, and with the help of CISDR there is no doubt that she will achieve it.
2009 ExxonMobil Green Team
This summer, CISDR will participate in the 2009 ExxonMobil Green Team summer internship program. We will receive three student interns to assist our campus managers with the environmental project component of the GEMS program. The goal is to teach elementary and middle school-aged children about the concept of “Being Green” and the importance of taking care of our environment. Thank you ExxonMobil.
