...that middle school student Teresa thanks you for supporting Communities In Schools Dallas Region (CISDR)?

“CISDR has been so helpful to me in so many ways,” says Teresa, a CISDR student at Sam Houston Middle School. “When I became a part of this organization, I learned how to deal with issues that include school, family, and self-awareness. CIS Dallas Region has become a reason why I decided to continue to attend school, graduate and think about my goals 5 and 10 years from now. I have become more open about situations and experiences that occurred in my life, and with good advice I have the opportunity now to make a difference. I am now able to communicate more with my parents and I have noticed the improvement with my grades. ExxonMobil Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) has made a tremendous impact. The experiments and hands on activities become more exciting and I am more willing to learn. My math grade has improved and I now have the mentality that I can succeed in life. Thanks, Communities In Schools Dallas Region!”

To further validate the effectiveness of CIS and the importance our program is to education and dropout prevention in the State of Texas, a report on Best Practices in Dropout Prevention was released today by the Texas Education Agency, in partnership with the National Dropout Prevention Center/Network and the results found that Communities In Schools has consistent, positive and meaningful effects on preventing dropouts and provided the most potential for success.

“For middle and high schools students, CIS was clearly making a difference.  Most striking, perhaps, was the unanimous response across students in high school and many in middle schools who stated that they would have dropped out of school if it were not for CIS.”
