Legacy Coterie

The Legacy Coterie was established to honor and recognize donors who make the CISDR Endowment part of their estate plan by including a bequest to the Endowment in their wills, by designating the Endowment as beneficiary of a trust, retirement plan assets or insurance policies of which ownership has been designated to the Endowment.

Bequests
A charitable bequest enables you to retain your assets during your lifetime, while helping CISDR in years to come. Your bequest can be a specific dollar amount, property or securities, a percentage of your estate, or balance of your estate after providing for your family or loved ones.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder trust, managed by a trustee of the donor’s choice, is an excellent way to use appreciated property or securities to provide a dependable, lifelong income. The donor receives an immediate charitable income tax deduction and eliminates paying capital gains tax while the trust pays an annual stipend to the donor and/or a beneficiary. After the donor’s lifetime, the remaining income and corpus of the trust is distributed to the CISDR Endowment for its charitable purposes.

Charitable Lead Trusts
A charitable lead trust allows the donor to transfer assets to others with dramatic savings on gift and estate taxes. Assets are transferred to a trust for a period of time during which the trust pays an income to CISDR. At the period’s end, the original assets return to either the donor or to another non-charitable beneficiary, often the donor’s children or grandchildren. Depending on the type of charitable lead trust selected, the donor may receive a current tax deduction or choose to defer taxation on the income earned by the trust.

Gift Annuities
A gift annuity provides a tax advantage to the donor or donor’s designee and an important gift to CISDR later. Available for small and large gifts, annuities provide a good return rate that can be paid now, or later, such as during the donor’s retirement years. A donor irrevocably transfers money or property to CISDR in return for CISDR’s commitment to pay the donor, another person, or both, fixed and guaranteed payments for life. The transfer is part charitable gift and part purchase of an annuity.

Gifts of Life Insurance
By naming CISDR Endowment as the beneficiary, or irrevocable beneficiary of a life insurance policy, a donor may make a gift of life insurance to the Endowment. If you make CISDR the owner and beneficiary of a new policy or of a policy not yet fully paid, all additional premium payments are deductible.
